Dana Pittman is the corporate treasurer and director of finance and business at the Stanley Foundation. He joined the foundation after 13 years at the Stanley Law firm. Dana attended Muscatine Community College and graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor of business administration degree, majoring in accounting.
What do you do at the foundation and how long have you been here?
With the three titles, my job duties range from monitoring our investment activity to supervising the Administration Department to getting new employees settled into the community and at the foundation. I started at the foundation in September 1993.
What do you like most about your job?
Working at the foundation allows me to live in rural Iowa on the family farm and, at the same time, work in my area of expertise alongside interesting individuals who have backgrounds very different from mine and who are networked all over the world. The combination results in a very good work/life balance.
Where are you from?
I was born in western Iowa. My family moved to the Muscatine area when I was two years old.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
I now own the family farm, so there is plenty to do when I am not at work. Also, my four children and stepchildren live in Muscatine along with ten of 12 grandchildren, so I have no problem finding something to do in any spare time I might have.
