Patty Papke is a vice president and director of operations at the Stanley Foundation. She oversees the foundation’s human resources, administrative systems, and event planning. Prior to working at the foundation, Patty spent ten years in Colorado as a planner of more than one hundred events annually—trade shows, conferences, and special meetings for clients from different industries—before moving to Texas to organize conferences and trade shows internationally. She was also based in London for two years and has worked for two nonprofits in the Midwest.
What do you do at the foundation and how long have you been here?
I have been at the foundation five years. I provide operational support for programming activities, including events management and collaborative relationship management.
What do you like most about your job?
It’s been a wonderful experience being surrounded by people supporting our mission of advancing multilateral action in an effort to create fair, just, and lasting solutions to critical issues of peace and security.
Where are you from?
I am originally from Muncie, Indiana.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
It was in London that I found yoga, a practice that seemed to perfectly balance my work habits and my desire to remain healthy and active. I enjoyed the yoga so much that I even traveled to India, and, upon returning to the United States, decided to become a teacher. I took a break from planning meetings and spent part of a year in Los Angeles training to be a Bikram hot yoga teacher.
