Deb Hughes
Human Resources Generalist

Deb Hughes is a human resources generalist at the Stanley Foundation. She is an experienced HR professional. Most recently prior to joining the foundation, she worked in human resources at the University of Iowa. Deb received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Iowa and an M.B.A. from St. Ambrose University. Her certifications include senior professional in human resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute, certified employee benefit specialist from the International Foundation of Employee Benefits and senior certified professional from the Society for Human Resources Management.

What do you do at the foundation and how long have you been here?

I joined the Stanley Foundation in August 2017 as a part-time human resources generalist. I work with the leadership team to develop and administer human resources practices and policies that create and sustain a high-performance culture.

What do you like most about your job?

Being part of an organization focused on advancing peace, cooperation, and security in the world. The foundation demonstrates that it values its staff by providing a flexible, supportive, diverse, and professional working environment.

Where are you from?

Originally from Ft. Madison, Iowa, I’ve lived in Muscatine for many years.

What are your hobbies?

I am a dedicated fan of Iowa Hawkeyes sports. My interests also include music, health and wellness, walking, and Zumba classes at the Muscatine “Y.” I like to volunteer in my community and currently serve on the committee for the annual Muscatine CROP Walk. This event raises funds and awareness to address hunger globally and locally.
